FREE!!! My father had fence posts which he wanted to get rid of. Dad posted a sign close to the road which has a natural S curve. The curves slowed drivers down to read, FREE FENCE POSTS. No takers. He ran an ad in the local Penny Saver…FREE FENCE POSTS. No takers. Lastly, he ran a final ad in the local Methodist church newsletter…FREE FENCE POSTS. No takers. In frustration, my father changed the sign to read..Fence Posts, $1 each. By the weekend a neighbor purchased all of them.
After a challenge or something similar to the fence post issue, my father used to asked, “Boy, what did you learn?” With the most recent even, FREE FENCE POST, as an opportunity; I turned the question back on my father. My father asked our neighbor, “The posts were free. Why now?” The neighbor replied, “Normally, free means defective.”
FREE!!! Post your opinion in the Crash Blog.
In the 60’s, Betty Crocker came out with the first instant cake mix; add water and bake. It was a complete failure, but the marketing research didn’t stop. The answer was simple; buyers didn’t feel there was ownership in the cake. Betty Crocker changed the mix creating an ownership; add two eggs and mix. Needless to say, and millions of boxes later, Betty Crocker is a house hold name.
FREE!!! Your Input!!!
Okay enough analogies. Let’s get to the point. I hear common excuses like, “I didn’t have time.” “It’s not my job.” And “Someone else will do it.” The members of the Crash congregation have a chance to share opinions, explain faith, or even show a side of themselves which may change someone’s life. Maybe Jesus should charge? Maybe Crash should charge? Maybe Scott should charge? Getting Scott’s advice for a cup of coffee is quaintly similar to the Peanut character Lucy who charges a nickel for her advice. (Scott’s advice is worth more than a nickel.)
FREE Service!!! But God’s Word is extra.
What does it take to wake up a group of Christians? Being a child of the 60’s, I watched human rights unfold in dynamic turmoil because a generation did not feel that the establishment was listening. Should FREE include a service charge? In the days of blogging, twitter, email, cell phones, and the list continues…the vessels of communication are readily accessible. Many people are either too busy, say it’s not my responsibility, or someone else will do it.This is just a free opinion…or should I charge? Seven
