Today is the last in a series of posts on the subjecting of hearing God by being present with Him. You can read the rest of the posts here.
As I’ve shared this week about a variety of different things I’ve learned about ways I hear God when I am focused on being present with Him, there is one point I want to make clear before this series is done. Being present with God doesn’t have to be disconnected from the rest of your life. Too often, I have operated from a view that says there’s time with God and then there’s the rest of my time. This dichotomy is simply false. Being present with God is something that can take place at any time and place, and amidst all of life.
Take today for instance. Fridays are my day off and i try to do my best to be present with my little man. Even though he is not 6 months old yet, and we cant do many things together, being with him today is my main priority on Fridays. Today I did other things other than looking at and playing with him. I skyped a friend and met up with another for coffee, cleaned a bathroom and I am about to tackle some dishes. But everywhere and every thing have been with my little crazy man. It is impossible today to forget I’m present with him.
Being present with God is fundamentally similar. We have many obligations and responsibilities each day. We cannot always be on “retreat with God”. But we can recognize and intentionally be with God in the midst of whatever we do, wherever we go.
I hope this week’s posts have helped you take a step closer to that ideal.
I would love for you to share below – How do you cultivate a sense of being present with God amidst everyday life?
